The importance of  having outstanding attorney resources cannot be overstated. It can make the difference between being free and being incarcerated. (Or for that matter, it can make the difference between freedom and getting the death penalty.) In the United States, we like to believe that justice is blind and that everybody gets a fair chance. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you, but the reality is very few public defenders are truly outstanding lawyers. If they were that talented and could match wits with the best of them, the chances are they would be getting paid big dollars to be a partner in some high priced, big city law firm. Even when a public defender is brilliant, the system is often stacked against her and her clients, who cannot afford to pay for investigators or expert witnesses.

A criminal defense lawyer is one type of lawyer, but during the course of your life, you might very well need the services of other types of legal counsel or attorney resources. The United States is the most litigious nation in the world. Anybody can sue anyone, making any claim, whether it is based in reality or not, at any time. They can do so with utter impunity. If you lack outstanding legal representation, you may find yourself in court, up against totally false allegations, and yet, absolutely unable to defend yourself, in the eyes of the court.  You may end up settling, handing over large sums of hard earned money, even though you did nothing at all to injure the suing party in any way, shape or form.  Or, you may refuse to settle and go through the trial, just to have a judge or jury award the plaintiff ten times the amount you could have settled for.

Yet, on the other hand, there may be an event in your life where you are seriously injured, and have your earning power stripped from you. This may come at the hands of some large corporation. It would be nice if a giant corporation would take responsibility for their mistake and just give you the compensation that you deserve, but unfortunately, that is not how life works. They have teams of lawyers already paid, on retainer, just waiting for cases like yours, so they can keep you from getting one penny of their money. That would be another time when having an outstanding attorney can mean all the difference in the world, not only for you, but for all the members of your immediate family.

If you are running a business you will often come across situations where you need to consult with a lawyer who is trained in corporate law and the universal commercial code. The amount of laws, rules and regulations that are on the books affecting how you can do business, are enough to make your head spin. Lawmakers simply keep adding thousands and thousands of pages. They make amendments and changes from one year to the next. What was proper and legal last year, may not be so this year. Ignorance of the law is never a proper defense. Your company is required to adhere to business laws, just as you, personally must follow criminal laws. Having access to the talents of a great corporate lawyer can mean the difference between the success of failure of your company..

To make matters even more complicated, what happens when your business does business with companies from other nations? Now you are dealing with international tax laws, import and export regulations, and an ever increasing array of agreements between globalist agencies. Luckily there are specialists who can help you navigate through such legal gauntlets that you would never be able to do, left to your own devices. Some people speak of how nice it would be if there were no lawyers in the world, but these are the same people who don’t hesitate to hire one when they are in trouble. It would be nice to live in world that didn’t need lawyers, just as it would be great to live in world that didn’t need police or prisons, but the reality is we need all of them and we should be grateful to have an outstanding attorney.
